Volunteer to help

The Holiday Children and a dedicated teams of volunteer helpers spend a week in the summer, under canvas in Wiltshire.
The high ratio of helpers to our young camps reflects the need for a minimum of three adult helpers per Holiday Child.

Making a Donation

The Wylye Valley Disabled Children’s Charity was established for the benefit of physically disabled children, primarily to finance an annual horse riding holiday. Every penny raised goes towards providing a free week-long camping holiday for up to 18 young people.

Why we started

Established in 1970 the WVDC Charity was set up to provide a holiday for disabled, ill or disadvantaged young people aged between 11 and 16, whilst also allowing for some all important respite for those who care for them.

What we do

The Bigger Picture

IMPROVING LIVES

Over the course of the week, activities include a fancy-dress competition, horse riding, building a den, trips out to local attractions, such as outward bounds centre, cinema, swimming, and evening events like skittles, a disco, sing-song and the End of Camp Show.

SPECIAL GUESTS

Every year has a different theme and often the camp has special guests who demonstrate skills related to the theme.
Visits in recent years have included the owls from the Harry Potter films,  professional choreographers, the Yeo Valley ice cream disco truck, and many, many more.

FUNDING THE CAMP

Funding comes 100% from donations from people like you and we are always open for new support and fundraising ideas. Currently we raise the funds through raffles, dances, quizzes, auctions of promises, BBQs, collection boxes, the 100 Club and our legendary Punchbowl festival.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

It’s all about the holiday children enjoying a week away from home, making new friends, building their confidence and growing as individuals. It’s not all just fun and games, oh actually, it is all fun and games.

Get Involved

In order for the holiday children to have the best time possible, as well as provide a respite for their families, the charity is reliant on the continued efforts of fundraising and volunteers.

STAGE

The camp is completely self-contained, incorporating dining and sleeping accommodation, under large marquees and full toilet/washing facilities.

A dedicated team of on-site cooks cater for upwards of ninety mouths, providing three sit-down meals per day and are happy to accommodate dietary requirements.

Services

Access to electricity is available, to power lighting and kitchen equipment, such as a fridge and food processor. Solar-powered night lighting is provided for the Holiday Children’s sleeping accommodation.

Mains water supplies the kitchen, dish washing and washing areas. We also have showers on site so everyone at camp has the choice of a steaming hot shower either indoors or open air under the trees.
